A feuding faction of the Agona Royal Family of Akyem Oda, the Attafuah Gate, has threatened to go on rampage if the Government does not stop its interference in the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area chieftaincy matters.
According to Abusuapanin Ofori Atta, the Head of the Attafuah Royal Family speaking during a press conference held at Akim Oda, based on a visit by the Queen Mother, Nana Akua Asantewaa III, the Head of the Agona Royal Family and some elders to the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, they were asked to accept the decision by government to attend Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) because the Regional House of Chiefs is no longer interested in the Akyem Kotoku chieftaincy dispute.
This situation, he said, is unacceptable and an infringement on their basic human rights.
“We are therefore at a loss why it has become necessary to use ADR to resolve the matter when we know that the case has almost come to an end.”
“The fact of the matter is that one Dr Joseph Kyei Mintah who is currently parading himself as the Chief of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area under the stool name Oseadeeyoo Frempong Manso IV is not a member of the Agona Royal Family of Akyem Oda,” he said.
“Furthermore, Dr Kyei Mintah’s legitimacy was challenged at the Supreme Court (Civil Division) on 15th November 2011 with Justice William Atuguba presiding and by 4-1 majority decision, he lost.”
“Dr Kyei Mintah not satisfied with the verdict and on 2nd May 2012 filed a review application at the Superior Court of Judicature, Supreme Court (Civil Division) with Justice William Atuguba presiding with six others namely; Justice S.K Date-Baah, J. Ansah, J. Dotse, P. Baffoe-Bonnie, N.S Gbadegbe and Mrs. V. Akoto-Bamfo again ruled in a 7 majority decision dismissed the review application and declared him not a chief of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area.
However, despite the Supreme Court rulings Dr Kyei Mintah has been parading himself as the substantive Chief and was in attendance at the recent 75th Nana Ofori Atta memorial grand durbar of Chiefs at Kyebi ostensibly at the invitation of Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin,” he said.
“We therefore want to send a word of caution to the Government to call Dr Kyei Mintah to order. We have information indicating that he has currently occupied the Palace making feverish preparation for the forthcoming Akwasidae. If he goes ahead to observe the Akwasidae we would have no other option than to attack,” he cautioned.
“It should be noted that the recent peace-making that took place was between the Queen Mother Nana Akua Asantewaa III and the Attafuah side of the Agona Royal Family in which Dr Kyei Mintah was not involved.”
“This clearly indicates that he is not a member of the Agona Royal Family of Akyem Oda,” he stressed.
The case therefore pending before the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs should be listed for hearing as soon as possible, in order to allow Dr Kyei Mintah to prove his claim as a member of the Royal Family, they appealed.
