MOE, NTC Launch Ghana Teacher Prize 2018

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC) has launched the Ghana Teacher Prize 2018 aimed at awarding hardworking teachers in the country.

The Minister in charge of General Education, Yaw Adutwum, indicated that the National Teacher Awards have been rebranded ‘Ghana Teacher Prize’ with an international standard as the new benchmark.

The objective of the award scheme, he said, is to motivate teachers for higher performance and to restore the respect the profession should enjoy.

He commended all teachers and educational personnel for their efforts, especially those working in the remote and deprived districts in the country.

Government, he stated, is committed to making the teaching profession a great one and encourage all teachers to do their best to make it a reality.

The award ceremony slated for October 5th, is being organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC).

The award is open to working teachers in both private and public institutions including teachers on voluntary teaching service.

Unlike the overall best teacher awards category in the previous years, the Ghana Teacher Prize would honour ‘Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher Award’ (GMOTA).

In addition to Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher Award, other awards categories that will be honoured include best Pre-School Teacher, best Primary School Teacher, best Junior High School Teacher, best Senior High School Teacher, best special school and the HIV/AIDs Most Alert School.

The most outstanding teacher takes home a three bedroom house plus GH¢ 500,000.00 endowment fund, while the first runner-up receives a 4×4 Pickup, and the second runner-up a saloon car.

The winner will take home $1million from competitive nominations and applications of 30,000 from 173 countries around the world.
