Some National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch executives within the Greater Accra Region have declared support for Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah after he declared his intentions to lead NDC in the 2020 elections.
The group insists that Mr. Spio Garbrah is the only aspirant who has the experience and can bring victory to the party come 2020.
According to the executives, Dr. Spio-Garbrah is a liberator and motivator of Ghanaian youth therefore would be the best person to lead the party.
This was disclosed by the spokesperson for the Executives, Nana Baah at a press conference in Accra.
“Dr. Spio-Garbrah has the intelligence, articulation of ideas and knowledge to turn things around in this country because he has been tested and we know we can rely on him,” he said.
Nana Baah indicated that Dr. Spio-Garbrah’s integrity is intact and cannot be smeared with corruption and incompetence.
Mr. Spio Garbrah, the group said, placed second in the 2006 NDC flagbearership race and therefore if the race was in a pecking order in NDC, it would have been his turn to assume the flagbearership of the NDC for the 2020 presidential elections.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah, he said, can contest again for NDC after 2020 unlike former President John Mahama, who according to Nana Baah, has just one term.
“Dr. Spio-Garbrah is a surety for victory and guarantees victory for NDC, come 2020 because of his wide appeal to many ordinary Ghanaians,” he said.
The executives argued that the Former Trade and Industry Minister is the only person who can turn the fortunes of the NDC around ahead of the 2020 general election.
They indicated that the youth of the country are in dire need of someone to keep their hopes alive; a task they believe can be delivered by Spio-Garbrah.
Spio-Garbrah’s move comes at a time when the NDC is on a mission of re-organization after its defeat in the 2016 elections.
